During the annual parade for Armed Forces Day, Myanmar’s army chief Min Aung Hlaing claimed that young people were being deceived into supporting the resistance against the military, attributing it to foreign interference. He expressed disappointment in the youth being misled by false narrative propaganda and accused ethnic armed groups of hindering progress towards democracy and federalism.
The parade, held in Naypyidaw, featured military displays and honored officials from Russia, with whom ties have strengthened since the coup. The military leader also mentioned ongoing efforts to restore peace, despite the armed resistance and displacement of millions of people.
Min Aung Hlaing addressed the conscription law activation and plans for new elections, accusing opposition groups of sabotage. The state of emergency, in place since the coup, was extended for another six months. International condemnation of the military’s actions and calls for embargoes were also mentioned in response to the atrocities committed.
