First T20: West Indies defeat Pakistan women’s team by one run

In the first match of the T20 women’s series, West Indies defeated Pakistan by one run in Karachi. The hosts managed to score 121 runs, falling short by 8 wickets of the easy target of 123 runs set by the visitors. West Indies’ Karishma Ramharack took 4 wickets, shaking Pakistan’s batting line-up.

From the Pakistan women’s team, captain Nida Dar was the top scorer with 27 runs, followed by Sidra Amin with 23, Muneeba Ali with 18, Aliya Riaz with 12, Ayesha Zafar with 7, and Tuba Hassan with 6 runs. Nahida Ali remained not out with 7 runs.

Karishma Ramharack took 4 wickets by conceding just 15 runs, while Kyshona Knight, Hayley Matthews, and Afy Fletcher took 1 wicket each.

Before the match, West Indies had set a target of 123 runs for Pakistan to achieve success in the first match of the Women’s T20 International series.

In the opening match of the series, comprising five matches at the National Bank Stadium, West Indies won the toss and batted first, scoring 122 runs for 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

The guest team’s first wicket fell on the second ball of the first over, with no runs scored by the captain of the Women’s T20 International series, Hayley Matthews, before being caught by Najiha on the bowling of Sadiya Iqbal.

From the West Indies side, Kyshona Joseph scored 34, Stephanie Taylor scored 30 runs, while Chinelle Henry, Aaliyah Alleyne, Shemaine Campbelle, and Afy Fletcher scored 13 runs each. Sherry-Ann Fraser remained not out with five runs.

Fatima Sana took three wickets, while Sadiya Iqbal took two wickets, with captain Nida Dar, Diana Baig, and Tuba Hassan taking one wicket each.

The second match of the series will be played on Sunday, the third on April 30, the fourth on May 2, and the fifth on May 3. Pakistan is ranked 8th in the ICC Women’s T20 rankings, while the West Indies women’s team is in sixth position.
