The Army’s top brass has pledged its full support to the government in curbing illegal activities that are hampering economic growth, stability, and investor confidence. This resolution was expressed during the 259th Corps Commanders’ Conference held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. The military leadership also reiterated their support for ongoing efforts for socioeconomic growth under the Special Investment Facilitation Council.
In addition to this, the conference emphasized the need for the rapid development of the economic potential of newly merged districts (NMDs) and border districts of Balochistan, aiming for sustainable peace and growth. This demonstrates the military’s commitment to ensuring a better future for these regions.
This resolution comes shortly after the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir assured the business community of fostering transparency in dollar exchange rates and interbank rates. The COAS highlighted the importance of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) in attracting substantial investments from countries such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and others. To strengthen economic decision-making, task forces focused on economic matters and different sectors have also been formed.
The military’s support for economic growth comes at a crucial time as the country faces challenges on the economic front, including a sharp decline in the value of the rupee against the dollar. However, recent efforts, including a crackdown on the informal currency market and increased supervision of the foreign exchange market by the State Bank of Pakistan, have helped stabilize the situation.
In addition to supporting economic growth, the military leadership also reaffirmed its commitment to defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan against all kinds of direct and indirect threats. The military condemns any attempts by hostile forces to destabilize the country and emphasizes that terrorists and their facilitators will be dealt with firmly.
During the conference, participants were briefed on the prevailing geo-strategic environment, challenges to national security, and the military’s strategy in response to evolving threats. The conference also paid tribute to the sacrifices of martyrs, including officers, soldiers, law enforcement agencies, and citizens who have laid down their lives for the safety and security of the country.
The military also expressed appreciation for the commemoration of Defence and Martyrs Day across the country on September 6. They remain grateful to the proud nation for its support and continue to honor martyrs and their families with the utmost respect and dignity.
Overall, this resolution by the Army’s top brass showcases their commitment to supporting the government in curbing illegal activities and promoting economic growth while ensuring the defense and security of Pakistan.
