The Gaza Strip is currently experiencing a period of calm following almost two months of intense bombardment by Israeli forces. The United Nations has reported that a four-day truce between Israel and Hamas has allowed for a significant increase in the delivery of essential supplies to Gaza. This includes food, water, medicine, and fuel – the latter of which has been in short supply since the war began. Aid convoys have also reached areas in northern Gaza, which had been the focus of Israel’s ground offensive. Prior to the conflict, 500 trucks of aid entered Gaza daily, but the UN estimates that 1.7 million people – out of the region’s 2.3 million population – have been displaced by the ongoing fighting. Residents are hopeful that the temporary ceasefire will bring some relief to their lives.
