A Shift in Political Allegiances: Recent Departures from Imran’s PTI – Pakistan

The recent departures of Farrukh Habib and Sadaqat Abbasi are just the latest in a string of notable figures leaving the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI). This exodus comes in the aftermath of the May 9 riots, sparked by the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and resulting in the vandalization of military installations. Despite this, it is important to note that there may be other politicians who have left the party that are not mentioned here. Former planning minister Asad Umar resigned from his party positions but did not explicitly announce his departure from PTI. Fawad Chaudhry initially claimed to be “taking a break from politics” but later attended the launch ceremony of the Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party (IPP) led by Jahangir Khan Tareen. It remains unclear whether he is officially a part of IPP.
