The far-right outlet Gateway Pundit has announced bankruptcy amidst a series of defamation lawsuits related to the 2020 presidential election. Founder Jim Hoft stated that the parent company had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in response to what he called “progressive liberal lawfare attacks” against the media outlet. Hoft emphasized that this action was not an admission of fault, but rather a strategy to consolidate litigation in one court for resolution.

Despite facing censorship, de-platforming, de-banking, and other financial challenges, Gateway Pundit remains committed to its mission of providing independent news. The website has faced legal challenges for spreading false and defamatory claims about the 2020 election, including allegations against poll workers in Georgia and a former employee of a voting machine company.

Established in 2004, Gateway Pundit gained influence within conservative and far-right circles, but has also been criticized for promoting falsehoods, such as misinformation about the Las Vegas shooting and former President Barack Obama’s citizenship. In 2021, Google stopped online advertisement revenues for the site due to violations of its misinformation policies.
