Yemen’s Houthi rebels have carried out attacks on an oil tanker and a US MQ-9 Reaper drone in response to Israel’s actions in Gaza. The group’s military spokesman confirmed the targeting of the British oil ship Andromeda Star with naval missiles, causing minor damage. They also shot down a US drone in Yemeni airspace. This comes as part of their promise to continue attacks against vessels in the region.

The US military confirmed the attacks and damage to the Andromeda Star, while the UK Maritime Trade Operations also reported an attack on a vessel in the area. The Houthi group has been targeting ships passing through the region, expanding their attacks to include US and UK vessels.

Houthi leader Abdel-Malik al-Houthi addressed crowds in Sanaa, rejecting claims of weakened capabilities and vowing to escalate attacks. The group has been staging large protests in solidarity with Gaza and against Israel and its allies. Houthi-controlled media reported widespread demonstrations across Yemen in support of their actions.
