Australia claimed their sixth World Cup title with a six-wicket victory over hosts India, thanks in large part to Travis Head’s impressive 137 off 120 balls. India’s previously unbeaten run in the tournament came to an end as left-arm quick Mitchell Starc took 3-55 and Australia captain Pat Cummins claimed a miserly 2-34 in his 10 overs. Australia’s victory silenced the crowd of over 92,000 fans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, named after the Indian prime minister.
