Australia claimed their sixth World Cup title with a six-wicket victory over hosts India, thanks in large part to Travis Head’s impressive 137 off 120 balls. Head’s century, only the seventh in a World Cup final and the third by an Australian batsman, helped Australia chase down India’s 240 all out with seven overs to spare. India’s previously unbeaten run in the tournament came to an end as left-arm quick Mitchell Starc took 3-55 and Australia captain Pat Cummins claimed a miserly 2-34 in his 10 overs. Australia’s victory silenced the crowd of over 92,000 fans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, named after the Indian prime minister.
