Shell fragments from an Israeli tank have struck the Egyptian border, resulting in the injury of seven individuals, including Egyptian border guards, as reported by both countries’ militaries. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, and the Israeli military has acknowledged that it was an accidental hit on the Egyptian position near the Gaza Strip border. An investigation is underway, and the Israeli military has expressed regret for the incident. The Egyptian military spokesperson confirmed the incident but did not provide details on the number of injured personnel.

The wounded individuals have been taken to the hospital, as stated by a witness and a medical source. Witnesses have heard an explosion followed by the sound of ambulances arriving from the Egyptian side.

Political analyst Bishara suggests that this incident may prompt Egypt to issue a warning to Israel regarding its indiscriminate bombing in Gaza, which has gotten out of control. However, Egypt is limited in coordinating humanitarian aid to Gaza due to its relationship with Israel. Witnesses claim that the Israeli strike will not disrupt the passage of aid to Gaza.

Coincidentally, the accidental blast occurred just hours after a second convoy of aid trucks entered the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing to deliver supplies to Gaza. Despite these efforts, aid officials express concern that food, water, and fuel supplies remain low. The Israeli bombings in response to a Hamas incursion on October 7 have prevented aid from reaching Gaza. UN officials estimate that at least 100 trucks per day are needed in Gaza to address the crisis, while several hundred trucks were arriving daily prior to recent events.
