The Electoral Commission of Pakistan (ECP) revoked Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) electoral symbol “bat” on December 22, following a petition from founding member Akbar S Babar challenging the intra-party elections. PTI filed a petition in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) and the court suspended the ECP’s decision, restoring the party’s electoral symbol.
In response, Akbar S. Babar announced plans to challenge the PHC’s verdict at all judicial platforms, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rights of party workers to elect leadership based on merit.
The PHC Justice Kamran Hayat Miankhel announced the verdict, stating that the urgency of the elections and the denial of the party’s symbol had led to the suspension of the ECP’s decision. The court directed the ECP to restore PTI’s election symbol and publish the certificate on its website.
