The interim Afghan government has pledged to investigate the recent terrorist attack in Dera Ismail Khan, while also stating that Kabul should not be blamed for every issue. The attack, carried out by militants belonging to the Tehreek-i-Jihad Pakistan (TJP), resulted in the death of at least 23 Pakistan Army soldiers and left over 30 troops wounded. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that a group of six militants stormed a security post, but their attempt was ultimately thwarted. The TJP claimed responsibility for the attack, but security officials disputed the authenticity of a video released by the group. After the attack, the Foreign Office (FO) released a statement demanding immediate and verifiable actions from the Afghan government against militant outfits fomenting terror in Pakistan. Pakistan demanded action against all terrorist groups, including their leadership and sanctuaries. Foreign Secretary Syrus Sajjad Qazi emphasized the urgency and gravity of the situation and insisted on comprehensive investigation and decisive action against the perpetrators. However, Taliban government spokesman Mujahid stated that Afghanistan should not be held responsible for every issue and that Pakistan should focus on its own security. He also added that Kabul does not allow anyone to use its soil against Pakistan or any other country. Pakistan has long insisted that the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) operates from Afghan soil, a charge which has been denied by the Taliban.
