The death toll from the biggest air attack on Ukraine by Russia has risen to 39, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. 158 missiles and drones were launched on cities and towns across Ukraine on Friday, described as the worst aerial bombardment since the start of the war in February 2022. Zelenskiy stated that works to clear up the consequences are still underway and nearly 120 cities and villages have been affected. 39 people were killed and 159 injured in the strikes, involving ballistic and cruise missiles and Iranian-made drones. In Kyiv, at least 16 people were killed, and the city announced a day of mourning for the victims. Rescue efforts continued in other cities and villages, and local authorities raced to help repair thousands of smashed windows in residential buildings and to restore heating. The weather is unseasonably warm in most of Ukraine, but forecasters expect a dip to zero later in the week.
