Rawalpindi: The issue of property dispute led to violence and threats against a widow woman and her daughters in the Sher Zaman Colony area of the Sool Line Police Station, but the police arrested the culprit and took legal action, also sending a report to the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz.

Earlier, after the incident of apparent violence and threats with a widow woman and her two daughters in the Sher Zaman Colony of Rawalpindi came to light, Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz took notice and requested a report from the Inspector General of Police (IG).

Upon the notice from the Chief Minister of Punjab, SSP Operations Rawalpindi Hafiz Kamran and DSP Sool Line visited the affected women’s home and gathered facts.

A spokesperson for the Punjab Police disclosed that the widow woman’s husband, Syed Azhar Ali, passed away 10 years ago, and the deceased’s 60-year-old brother, Riaz Ali Shah, got married two years ago and also resides in the same house.

The spokesperson mentioned that there is a property dispute between the two parties, which is currently sub judice, but the suspect Riaz Ali Shah attacked the widow of his deceased brother with a stick and the other brother also gave threats over the phone.

Rawalpindi Police has arrested the accused Riaz Shah involved in the violence and has initiated legal proceedings against him, and action has also been started against the other accused, Iftikhar Shah. SSP Operations Rawalpindi Hafiz Kamran assured complete protection for the widow woman.

The Rawalpindi CPO Khalid Hameedani stated that the Punjab Police is strictly implementing the policy of the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, “Violence against women will not be tolerated”, and the police are taking immediate action against perpetrators of violence, harassment, and abuse against women.

Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz stated that domestic violence against women will absolutely not be tolerated, and this is the government’s red line.
