In the past 5 days in Afghanistan, the number of people killed due to torrential rains has reached 70. According to the report of the international news agency AFP, Janan Saqib, a spokesperson for the Afghan government’s Disaster Management Department, stated that as a result of the heavy rainfall between the week and Wednesday, 70 people have lost their lives.

He mentioned that 56 civilians are injured and there are also financial losses, including 2600 houses being damaged or destroyed and 95 thousand acres of agricultural land being flooded.

Earlier, Janan Saqib had mentioned a smaller number of deaths due to the rains, stating that at the moment most casualties are due to the collapse of house roofs.

It should be noted that the United Nations had warned last year that Afghanistan could face the worst effects of climate change. Afghanistan, which has been under the impact of war for decades, is among the countries in the world where the least preparation has been made to deal with climate change, while scientists believe that climate change could become even more dangerous.

In the eastern regions of Afghanistan, in February of the current year, 25 people were killed in snowfall and landslides, while at the end of March, during a period of three weeks of severe weather conditions, the number of deaths reached 60.
