During a productive meeting in Mirjaveh, a border town in Iran, the Joint Border Trade Committee of Pakistan and Iran discussed a range of topics aimed at improving border concerns, bilateral trade growth, and immigration procedures and transportation.

The Pakistani delegation, headed by Abdul Qadir Memon, Chief Collector Customs Balochistan, and the Iranian side, led by Javed Haideri, Director General of Transit and International Transport from the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, engaged in discussions to address the movement of people across the border, transportation of essential and export commodities, and the promotion of bilateral trade.

The meeting also focused on tackling illegal trade, smuggling, and other border-related issues at the Iran-Pakistan border. Both sides proposed recommendations and exchanged ideas to enhance cooperation in the areas of railway, banking, transportation, and the way forward.

An agreement was reached to implement stringent measures at the border to curb illegal crossings and smuggling activities. The officials also discussed road transportation and proposed measures to streamline border operations, reduce delays, and ensure timely clearance of goods. The goal is to facilitate at least 800 daily traffic movements through the shared border.

The attendees of the meeting included representatives from relevant departments, the business community, and the banking industry, as well as officials from the Ministry of Immigration and Foreign Affairs. The delegations anticipate that these discussions will greatly benefit the region, particularly businesses on both sides, and contribute to resolving various business-related issues.

With the aim of achieving a higher trade volume, both Pakistan and Iran are committed to pursuing substantial measures. The progress made during this meeting lays the foundation for increased cooperation and smoother border operations, paving the way for a more prosperous trade relationship between the two countries.
