Islamabad: The IMF has recommended the full implementation of a new track and trace system before the introduction of new programs to prevent tax theft and bring new individuals into the tax net.

The Prime Minister, after reviewing the performance of the FBR, has decided to personally oversee the matter and directed authorities to ensure complete implementation of the conditions agreed with the IMF.

According to sources, the gradual implementation of the track and trace system in various sectors is ongoing and its scope is being gradually expanded.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance has stated that the IMF has expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of implementation of the track and trace system under the FBR and has demanded its full implementation in all industries.

The FBR has not taken effective measures to prevent tax theft in the industries of cigarettes, sugar, fertilizers, and cement, during the past 2 years, apart from the fertilizer industry, where the track and trace system could not be implemented.

The IMF has demanded the implementation of an automatic track and trace system in the manufacturing sector, stating that before the introduction of new programs, the track and trace system should be implemented in all four industries, and units not included in the system should be sealed.
