The chairman of PTI, Asad Umar, and Fawad Chaudhry were unable to appear in the hearing for the case of contempt of the Election Commission today, and none of them could be present. The four-member commission headed by Nisar Durrani from Sindh heard the cases of contempt of the Election Commission and the Chief Election Commissioner. Upon the non-appearance of Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry, the assistant lawyer requested for a postponement of the case. Commission head Nisar Durrani remarked that if there are security concerns, the hearing can be notified in jail. The Secretary of the Interior stated that if they want to go to jail, they can notify for the hearing, and we have no objections to the hearing in jail. A member of the commission asked if the law allows it, to which the Secretary of the Interior took the position of seeking advice from the Ministry of Law. Fawad Chaudhry’s lawyer said that Fawad Chaudhry is currently in Adiala Jail under judicial custody. The commission member stated that the Election Commission is a constitutional institution with its own rules, and no law applies to the Election Commission other than the Constitution and the Election Act. The hearing of the cases by the Election Commission has been postponed until December 6.
