Prime Minister Forms Inquiry Committee for Wheat Income Research

Islamabad: The Prime Minister has formed an inquiry committee under the leadership of the Cabinet Division Secretary to report on wheat procurement. Details reveal that a high-level meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to assess the current situation of wheat reserves in the country.
During discussions with stakeholders, the Prime Minister said that due to Allah’s blessings, the bumper crop of wheat has been harvested this year. It is imperative to ensure that there is no delay in the procurement of wheat and all necessary steps should be taken in this regard.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need to promptly compensate farmers for their hard work. Last year, an inquiry was made to the Ministry of National Food Security regarding wheat procurement, and despite good wheat production last year, the decision on wheat procurement was made based on certain reasons.
The Prime Minister has formed an inquiry committee on wheat procurement, with the Secretary Cabinet Division heading the inquiry committee. Federal Ministers Ahad Khan Cheema, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Mohammad Orangzeb, and Jam Kamal Khan, as well as the Prime Minister’s Coordinator Rana Ehsan Afzal and relevant senior officials attended the meeting.
In light of the scandal involving the purchase of excess wheat and expensive fertilizers, the Additional Secretary In-charge Food was removed from his position on the directives of the Prime Minister, and in his place, Grade 21 officer Fakhar Alam was appointed as the Federal Secretary of the Ministry of National Food Security.
