British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak fired his interior minister Suella Braverman on Monday after she criticized the police’s handling of a pro-Palestinian march, which caused division within his party and threatened his authority. Braverman’s dismissal follows her publishing an article accusing the police of “double standards” in their treatment of protests, which exacerbated tensions at a pro-Palestinian demonstration.

Following her dismissal, Braverman expressed that serving as home secretary had been the greatest privilege of her life and stated that she will have more to say in due course.

Sunak is expected to make further changes to his cabinet, bringing in allies and removing ministers who have not performed as well as he wanted in their departments.

In a surprising move, former British Prime Minister David Cameron was appointed as the country’s new Foreign Secretary by Sunak. Cameron’s return to British politics comes after spending the last seven years writing his memoirs and being involved in business, including with Greensill Capital, a finance firm that collapsed. Despite no longer being an elected member of parliament, King Charles has approved giving Cameron a seat in Britain’s upper chamber, the House of Lords, allowing him to return as a minister in the government.
