Indi Gregory, an eight-month-old baby girl from Britain who had been taken off life support following a legal battle, has passed away, her family announced on Monday. The baby suffered from a rare mitochondrial disease and her parents had fought to keep her on life support and transfer her to a children’s hospital in Rome, but their legal battle was unsuccessful. Despite efforts by the Italian government to grant her citizenship and Pope Francis offering his prayers, the baby was taken off life support and passed away at a hospice. Her father expressed anger and heartbreak, stating that the NHS and the courts had taken away her chance for a longer life and her dignity in passing away at home. Despite the outcome, he said she would always be remembered as special.
