Despite efforts by the Italian government to grant her citizenship and Pope Francis offering his prayers, the baby was taken off life support and passed away at a hospice. Her father expressed anger and heartbreak, stating that the NHS and the courts had taken away her chance for a longer life and her dignity in passing away at home. Despite the outcome, he said she would always be remembered as special.
