The United States President Joe Biden’s visit to Michigan has highlighted a growing division with the significant Arab-American community in the crucial swing state ahead of the upcoming general election in November.
Biden’s motorcade had to take alternate routes in Warren to avoid around 200 protesters who were displaying their anger at Biden’s strong support for Israel despite the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The protesters chanted slogans and waved Palestinian flags, expressing disappointment and declaring that they would not support Biden in the upcoming election.
The Arab-American community in Michigan, which has traditionally been a Democratic stronghold, is now expressing their dissatisfaction with Biden’s stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict. According to some activists, the community feels abandoned by Biden and no longer wants to support the “lesser of two evils” in the upcoming election.
It is predicted that a loss in Michigan could ultimately lead to a defeat for Biden in the November election. Despite hopes from Democratic strategists that the fear of another Donald Trump presidency may sway the community, some activists are demanding a ceasefire and are not convinced that this approach will change their minds.
