The cricket board of India has announced that fireworks will be banned at the ICC World Cup matches in Mumbai and New Delhi due to dangerous levels of pollution. The decision was made after concerns about air quality in Mumbai, where India will play against Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. Secretary Jay Shah stated that the Board of Control for Cricket in India is sensitive to environmental issues and has communicated with the ICC to ensure no fireworks display takes place in Mumbai. The BCCI recognizes the importance of prioritizing the health and safety of all participants while hosting the World Cup. The National Air Quality Index revealed that air in Mumbai was classified as “poor” with concentrations of pollution four times higher than the recommended limit by the World Health Organization.
