The Balochistan Assembly has been dissolved following the approval of Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo’s summary by Governor Malik Abdul Wali Khan Kakar. The dissolution of the provincial legislature was confirmed in a notification issued by the governor, exercising powers under Article 112(1) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan,1973.

According to the notification, Governor Malik Abdul Wall Khan Kakar stated, “As advised by Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, the Chief Minister of Balochistan, I hereby dissolve the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan with effect from 12th August, 2023 at 5 pm.”

Following the dissolution of the provincial assembly, the cabinet has also been dissolved. However, Chief Minister Bizenjo will continue to serve until the appointment of a caretaker chief executive.

The dissolution of the Balochistan Assembly initiates a process of dialogue between the chief minister and the opposition leader in the assembly to discuss the formation of a caretaker administration.

Earlier today, the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) Senator Anwaarul Haq Kakar was appointed as the interim prime minister of Pakistan. This appointment aims to ensure the smooth functioning of the country until a new government is elected.

The announcement of Kakar’s appointment came after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and outgoing Opposition Leader in the National Assembly (NA) Raja Riaz reached a consensus during a meeting in Islamabad. The Prime Minister’s Office issued a press release stating that President Arif Alvi approved Kakar’s appointment as caretaker prime minister upon their recommendation.

On August 9, President Arif Alvi approved the summary for dissolving the National Assembly under Article 58 of the Constitution, effectively ending the tenure of the PDM government after 16 months.

The official notification for the dissolution of the assembly was issued by the Aiwan-i-Sadr.
