Syed Asif Hussain has been appointed by the Election Commission of Pakistan to oversee administrative affairs after Secretary Omar Hamid Khan took medical leave. Hussain, who is currently the special secretary at the ECP Secretariat, will take on the additional role of secretary (BS-22) until further notice. This decision was approved by Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja. The alleged resignation of Hamid due to health concerns was clarified by the ECP, stating that he would resume his responsibilities if his health allows. The ECP also stated that there is no hindrance to its work and that it is fully functional. Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi also confirmed that the ECP is operating normally. Hamid, a retired grade 22 officer of the Secretariat Group, was appointed as the ECP secretary in July 2021, with his two-year contract being extended for an additional year last year. He has previously held important positions such as secretary of finance, secretary of the Benazir Income Support Programme, and secretary of national food security. He also served as the spokesman for the interior minister when Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was in office.
