WASHINGTON: With clear support in the American House of Representatives, a $95 billion aid package for security cooperation with Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan has been approved.

According to the report by the international news agency Reuters, the American House of Representatives has approved a $95 billion package for security cooperation with all three countries, while there have been strong objections from the Republican hardliners.

Israel will receive $9.1 billion for essential humanitarian needs totaling $26 billion, Ukraine will receive $60.84 billion, including $23 billion for American weapons, stocks, and installations.

Taiwan, along with Asia-Pacific, will be part of an $8.12 billion package for American allies.

After approval by the House of Representatives, the said bill will go to the Senate, where similar measures had been approved more than two months ago.

The report stated that Democratic President Joe Biden and Senate Republican leaders, such as Mitch McConnell, continue to pressure American Senate Republican Speaker Mike Johnson to present the bill for voting in the House.

There is a possibility of approval of the aid package bill in the Senate next week, after which it will be signed into law with President Biden’s signature.

During the opportunity for approval of the bill in the House, dozens of lawmakers or Democratic lawmakers from Ukraine were seen holding flags, while Speaker Mike Johnson told lawmakers that this was a breach of decorum.

The extraordinary 4-point package includes funds for Israel, security cooperation for Taiwan, actions in Asia-Pacific by allies and sanctions, threats of banning the Chinese social media app TikTok and the possible transfer of frozen Russian assets to Ukraine.

Previously, the White House said in a statement yesterday that the world is watching Congress to see what decisions it makes, an important message will be sent to American leadership in strengthening their stance on the approval of legislation.

The statement said that the administration has stressed both houses of Congress to immediately send the funding package for signing to the President.

Republican hardliners in the House of Representatives strongly opposed providing further aid to Ukraine and adopted the stance that this would add to the already existing difficulties in the American economy.

These Republican members threatened Speaker Johnson with removal from his position and were elected after being chosen by party hardliners for their strict stance, following the removal of Kyon McCarthy from the party’s hardline members in October 2023.
