In a distressing incident, an 8-year-old girl named Kinza was reportedly subjected to physical abuse by her female employer and her husband in Rawalpindi’s Rawat area. The minor housemaid’s father revealed that Kinza had been brutally tortured by Bakhtawar, the lady of the house, and her husband.

Disturbing marks of wounds were evident on the young girl’s head, reflecting the severity of the assault.

The Rawat police station has registered a case against the female employer and her husband in response to this incident. The Superintendent of Police (SP) Saddar and the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) immediately visited the residence to assess the health and well-being of the minor maid.

The police officers reassured the family that justice would be served in this matter.

It is disheartening to note that cases of abuse against minor housemaids continue to rise in Punjab, despite the existence of laws prohibiting the employment of underage domestic workers.

Recently, a 14-year-old maid was subjected to brutal torture by Somia, the wife of a civil judge in Islamabad. The girl’s parents lodged a complaint with the local police station, leading to the arrest and imprisonment of Somia. Her husband, Asim Hafeez, who was demoted to an Officer on Special Duty (OSD), was also accused of participating in the abuse. Somia is currently in jail, awaiting further legal proceedings.

It is essential for society to prioritize the protection of vulnerable individuals, especially minors employed as domestic help. The enforcement of existing laws against child labor and abuse is crucial to ensuring their safety and well-being.
