UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned the attacks by Hamas and said that innocent Palestinians should not pay the price. This statement comes after the United States vetoed the ceasefire resolution in the Security Council for Gaza. The resolution, supported by almost all members of the Security Council, called for an immediate ceasefire on humanitarian grounds in Gaza. The United Arab Emirates presented the resolution to the Security Council, with 13 out of 15 members supporting it. The United States, however, opposed the resolution. Countries supporting the resolution warned of further casualties and destruction in the third month of the conflict. Guterres emphasized that innocent Palestinians should not be punished for the actions of Hamas.
