An ambulance convoy carrying wounded patients was struck by an Israeli attack as it left al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza on Friday, resulting in many casualties according to Gaza officials, as reported by al-Jazeera. Israeli officials have confirmed that they targeted the ambulance, claiming that Hamas was using it, while Palestinian health officials stated that it was transporting patients. In a separate incident, at least 14 Palestinians, including children, were killed while fleeing south along Gaza’s coastal road. The Health Ministry spokesperson condemned the attack as a “massacre” and called on the international community to help establish a humanitarian corridor for the transportation of victims and patients, as well as the provision of aid to Gaza. The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, also called for an immediate ceasefire in light of the attack, emphasizing the need to protect patients, health workers, facilities, and ambulances at all times. Hamas’s political bureau chief, Ismail Haniyeh, denounced the Israeli attacks on ambulances and medical facilities in Gaza, asserting that such actions reflect the predicament faced by the Israeli occupation and its ground forces. Haniyeh called on Egypt to fully open the Rafah border crossing and urged people worldwide to express their anger in response to Israel and its allies. Additionally, Haniyeh appealed to the international community to fulfill its humanitarian, moral, and political responsibilities by implementing UN resolutions that condemn the “genocide” being committed against the people of Gaza.
