The Gaza bureau chief of Al Jazeera, Wael Al-Dahdouh, lost his eldest son, Hamza Al-Dahdouh, in an Israeli air strike on Sunday. Another journalist, Mustafa Thuria, was also killed in the attack. This tragic incident adds to the growing tally of 109 journalists killed in the Israeli offensive, according to the Gaza government’s media office. Wael Al-Dahdouh, who previously experienced the loss of his wife, another son, daughter, and grandson in a separate Israeli air strike, was seen mourning next to his son’s body in a video posted on an Al Jazeera-linked YouTube channel. The Al Jazeera Media Network has condemned the killings and called for accountability from the International Criminal Court, governments, human rights organizations, and the United Nations. The network stated that the killings were deliberate and urged an end to the targeting and killing of journalists. In addition to Hamza Al-Dahdouh and Mustafa Thuria, Reuters visuals journalist Issam Abdallah, a Lebanese citizen, was also killed while filming cross-border shelling in Lebanon.
