Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar stated on Wednesday that there has been a surge in terrorist incidents in Pakistan since the interim Afghan government took power in 2021. He connected the ongoing deportation of illegal immigrants to counter-terrorism efforts. After the Taliban took over Afghanistan, he expressed hope for long-term peace, but reported a significant increase in terror attacks in Pakistan. He attributed these attacks to groups opposing Pakistan, particularly the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan. The prime minister cited that there has been a 60% rise in terror incidents and a 500% increase in suicide attacks in the country. He also mentioned the loss of innocent lives in these attacks, but did not provide details of involvement of Afghan nationals in any specific incident. The country has recently witnessed an increase in terror attacks, including an attack on the Mianwali Training Air Base and an ambush in Gwadar. The government has initiated a nationwide operation to deport illegal foreign nationals, with over four million Afghans estimated to be living in Pakistan. Despite criticism, the caretaker government has stuck to their deadline for deportation, emphasizing that the move is not targeting any particular ethnic group.
