Islamabad: The Sunni Ittehad Council has decided to make Omar Ayub, the Secretary General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly. According to Express News, sources have revealed that the Sunni Ittehad Council has finalized the decision to appoint Omar Ayub as the opposition leader.

Previously, the Sunni Ittehad Council had pitted PTI’s Omar Ayub against the President of Pakistan Muslim League (N) and candidate of allied parties, Shahbaz Sharif, for the position of Prime Minister in the National Assembly but was unsuccessful. Omar Ayub received 92 votes in the election for Prime Minister in the National Assembly, while Shahbaz Sharif secured 201 votes and was elected Prime Minister for the second time.

After the election of the Prime Minister, Omar Ayub declared in his speech in the National Assembly that the election of the Prime Minister, Speaker, and Deputy Speaker was illegal and stated that the specific seats that were supposed to be given to them were not given.

He said that we had raised a constitutional point that this house is not complete but Raja Pervez Ashraf ignored that point.

Omar Ayub is the General Secretary of PTI, but his party members were successful in the elections despite not receiving electoral symbols and later joined the Sunni Ittehad Council.
