Police in Karachi picked up around 65 participants of a rally held in Lyari to show support to the Baloch Yakjehti Council (BYC’s) sit-in in Islamabad, and booked them in multiple cases related to rioting. A DIG confirmed that over 50 protesters were arrested in Lyari and booked under relevant sections of laws. One of the cases against 15 of the held persons was registered under several sections of the Pakistan Penal Code. Police high-ups had given strict directions to prevent any gathering by Baloch activists on Friday, leading to an elaborate security plan in place at Lyari’s Ath Chowk. The Kalri police arrested 15 when the protesters tried to assemble at Ath Chowk on Friday evening. The SHOs of Mauripur, Pak Colony, and Mochko police stations also set up pickets to prevent protestors from assembling. The FIR registered at the Chakiwara police station mentioned around 300 women and 150 men taking part in the rally and alleged rioting, resulting in the booking of around 400 unnamed men and women in the case. However, the official confirmed that women and children were not detained during the arrests.
