Lahore: Renowned poet, journalist, and author Nasir Kazmi is celebrating his 52nd birthday today. His first poetic collection ‘Barg’ catapulted him into the ranks of top Urdu poets, not just for his intensity and fierceness but also for the subtle touch of emotion that is felt in his words.
Nasir Reza Kazmi was born on December 8, 1925 in Anbala. After the partition of India, he settled in Lahore, where he started his journey into poetry at a young age.
In 1952, his first poetic collection ‘Barg’ established him as one of the leading poets in Urdu poetry.
He is considered one of the pioneers of modern Urdu poetry and Pakistan Post issued a special stamp in recognition of his literary services in 2013.
Nasir Kazmi spent most of his life in tea shops and wandering through deserted streets at night. His best works are a reflection of his experiences.
He revived poetry and restored the dignity of poetry through his innovative and popular works. His poetry resonated with the voice of Madame Noor Jehan in the ghazal “Dil Dharakne Ka Sabab Yaad Aya” and also captivated Khalil Hyder with the ghazal “Naye Kapre Badal Kar Jaoon Kahan”.
Nasir Kazmi passed away in Lahore on March 2, 1972, but his poetry still refreshes hearts today.
