On Saturday, the Iraqi state news agency reported that at least 16 people, primarily Iranians, lost their lives in a devastating road accident in Iraq. The accident occurred on a road that connects two cities in the northern Salahuddin province. Alongside the fatalities, thirteen individuals also sustained injuries in the tragic incident. Reports state that the injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals in critical condition for immediate medical attention.

This unfortunate incident comes shortly after another tragic accident that took place in Iran on August 26. According to state media, a minibus carrying mountaineers toppled into a ravine near Varzaghan city in the East Azerbaijan province. Ten individuals, including the driver, tragically lost their lives in this incident, while eight others were injured. The provincial emergency services spokesperson emphasized that if seat belts had been worn by everyone, the number of victims in this accident would likely have been lower.

These heartbreaking accidents serve as somber reminders of the importance of road safety and adherence to traffic regulations. It is vital for all road users to exercise caution, wear seat belts, and ensure their vehicles are in optimal condition. By prioritizing safety, we can minimize the risk of such devastating accidents and protect the lives of ourselves and others.
