New Delhi: Hong Kong and Singapore have imposed restrictions on popular Indian spice brands MDH and Everest products.
According to media reports, the food regulatory authorities of Hong Kong and Singapore have imposed these restrictions after confirming the presence of ethylene oxide, a cancer-causing substance, in these spices.
It is important to note that the International Agency for Research on Cancer has recognized ethylene oxide as a substance that can cause cancer.
Ethylene oxide is a pesticide that is not allowed in food, but it can be used to wash agricultural products to prevent microbial contamination.
Authorities have directed stores to remove these products from shelves, and consumers who have purchased these products are advised not to use them.
On the other hand, the Indian government, after the restrictions on some products in Hong Kong and Singapore, has directed food commissioners to collect samples of all products from companies manufacturing spices in the country.
