Lahore: Two young residents of a village in the Qasoor district of Punjab, Abdullah Hasan and Zahid Abbas, have returned to Pakistan after being released from India a year and a half later.

According to details, in August 2022, Abdullah Hasan and Zahid Abbas accidentally crossed the international border and entered Indian territory, where they were arrested by the BSF. Both Pakistani youths were handed over to Pakistani authorities on the Wahga border near Lahore on Friday. The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi played a crucial role in the release and repatriation of both young Pakistanis.

It should be noted that an Indian court had acquitted Abdullah Hasan and Zahid Abbas on April 18, 2023, and ordered their return to Pakistan. Both Pakistani youths were kept at the Faridkot India Bal Sidhar House (Rehabilitation Center) from where they were released on Thursday and sent to Atari/Wahga border to be sent back to Pakistan.

At the Atari/Wahga border, Indian authorities handed over both young men to Pakistani authorities on Friday. It was also revealed that Indian authorities had attempted to hand over both young men to Pakistani authorities a few weeks ago, but due to incomplete legal documents, they could not be handed over to Pakistan.

The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi took note of the matter, after which their repatriation became possible. As soon as both young Pakistani men entered Pakistani territory crossing the Wahga/Atari border, tears of joy welled up in their eyes and happiness was evident on their faces. They thanked Allah for returning home to their loved ones after almost 19 months.
