Two passengers tested positive for Covid-19 through rapid antigen tests conducted at Jinnah International Airport, according to a spokesperson for the Sindh Health Department.

The individuals, a 28-year-old resident of Faisalabad and a 25-year-old man from Malakand, had returned from Jeddah, the spokesperson confirmed.

Additionally, the health department received positive results for four remaining PCR tests from yesterday’s passengers.

It was also revealed that 17 rapid antigen tests and 15 PCR tests of passengers arriving from overseas have come back positive. Two of the positive PCR cases have been identified as the new Covid-19 variant JN.1 Omicron, the spokesperson added.

All affected passengers have been notified of their test results and strongly advised to quarantine at home.

The number of JN.1 variant cases in Karachi has now reached 17 following the identification of new patients, health officials stated.

Furthermore, health officials emphasized that the JN.1 variant is highly transmissible and a cause of concern worldwide.
