In Bishkek, Pakistani Ambassador Hasan Zaidi has said that in the attacks on six hostels in Kyrgyzstan, 14 students were injured, including one Pakistani. He appealed to the Pakistani community not to believe the news on social media.
In a video statement released today on the situation in Kyrgyzstan, the ambassador said that last night local people here attacked the hostels of foreign students, the Kyrgyz government has reported that 14 foreign students were injured in the attacks, including a Pakistani student Shahzeb who is currently under treatment in the hospital and on the Prime Minister’s orders, a meeting was held with the student whose condition is critical.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar have given special instructions to the embassy to provide all possible facilities to Pakistani citizens there, while the Kyrgyz government has assured our embassy that foreign students will be safe, police have been alerted, Kyrgyz police have started investigations and arrested some suspects.
The ambassador said that the Kyrgyz government has directed all foreign students to stay in hostels and also said not to share unverified information on social media.
The ambassador also stated that so far more than 500 phone calls have been received on the embassy’s emergency number, contact has been made with ten people from their families who were not in contact, I appeal to the Pakistani community present on my social media not to believe the news on social media until it is verified.
