The Dir police has been accused by PTI Senior Vice President (SVP) Sher Afzal Marwat of attempting to abduct him near the Gulabad area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lower Dir district. Marwat claimed that he managed to escape the attempt with the help of PTI workers who blocked the road, allowing him to avoid being abducted. However, the Lower Dir police spokesperson stated that Marwat was not arrested, but only questioned at a police checkpost before being allowed to leave.

The PTI had previously claimed that Marwat was “kidnapped” from Chakdara while on his way to Bajaur for a party convention. Marwat’s social media team later mentioned that he was “shifted to a safe place” and would still be addressing the Bajaur convention.

Marwat, who was recently appointed as a party SVP, has become more prominent within the PTI after representing the party chief in various legal cases and being involved in key party decision-making. He has also been the subject of legal cases, with the Peshawar High Court ordering the KP government not to arrest him until further notice in four cases recently registered against him. This includes a case in Dera Ismail Khan where he was accused of instigating the public against state institutions through social media.
