The PTI leader, Barrister Gohar Khan, has announced that his party will not boycott the upcoming general elections on February 8, despite losing its iconic electoral symbol ‘bat’. The Supreme Court upheld the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision to revoke the ‘bat’ symbol and declare the PTI’s intra-party polls as unconstitutional. As a result, the party will be contesting the elections as independent candidates with different electoral symbols. Gohar urged the nation to vote for the supported candidates and assured that the PTI will upload a list of party-affiliated candidates and their electoral symbols on all social media platforms within three days. He also mentioned that the party will file a review appeal against the SC judgment. The PTI had filed a contempt plea against the ECP, alleging lack of a level playing field, which was later withdrawn. Gohar expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation regarding a raid on his residence and lamented the SC verdict, calling it a huge loss for democracy. He also criticized the ECP for unfairness and concluded that the party will not be banned and will rise again.
