Prime Minister reports explosion at ammunition base kills twenty Cambodian soldiers

Prime Minister Hun Manet has confirmed that twenty soldiers were killed in an ammunition explosion at an army base in Kampong Speu province, west of Cambodia. Several soldiers were also wounded in the blast, which occurred on Saturday afternoon. Hun Manet expressed his deep shock at the incident and offered condolences to the families of the soldiers. He promised that the government would cover the costs of the soldiers’ funerals and provide compensation to the victims. The cause of the explosion is still unknown, and Hun Manet did not provide any further details in his statement on Facebook. Images on social media showed a damaged building and injured individuals receiving medical treatment. Hun Manet, a graduate of the US Military Academy, attained the rank of four-star general before becoming prime minister following his father Hun Sen.
