Karachi: Under the National Curriculum Council, students in all provinces will now be able to study new subjects in grades nine to twelve, after 28 years.
The decision has been made to upgrade optional subjects, trade and technical education, and additional technical subjects, allowing students to study new subjects in line with the demands of the modern era.
Speaking to Express News, Dr. Maryam Chughtai, Director of the National Curriculum Council, said that after the federal government, the notification of the phased notification is now being issued in all provinces, namely Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, that optional, trade and technical education, and technical subjects, a total of 83 subjects will be updated.
She said that mandatory subjects were updated in 2006, while optional subjects were last updated in 1995, so it was essential to update the subjects in line with the present era.
Dr. Maryam Chughtai revealed that under the National Curriculum of Pakistan, Sindh can now teach a new educational curriculum in the optional subjects of ninth and eleventh grades in the first phase next year, while in 2025, the curriculum can be upgraded in the tenth and twelfth grades as well.
Despite the shortage of funds, a total of 83 subjects have been notified for upgrade overall, with 10 additional technical subjects for grades nine to twelve, 14 technical subjects, and 38 optional subjects.
The Director of the National Curriculum Council said that technical education subjects include medical technology, fashion designing and dressmaking, graphic designing and media production, hospitality and tourism management, data coding, and other subjects.
She further stated that additional technical subjects for grades nine to twelve include advertising, telecommunication technology, soul construction, computer applications, computer hardware, marketing, entrepreneurship, event management, food processing and preservation, motor winding, automation and robotics technology, welding, woodwork, among others.
She said that elective subjects include textiles and textiles, food and nutrition, general science, English literature, psychology, library sciences, modern world history, history of Muslim India, Islamic culture, philosophy, urban planning, sociology, Chinese, principles of accounting, child psychology, typing and shorthand, education, health and physical education, Islamic history, home economics, Punjabi, German, economics, basic principles of food and nutrition, home nursing, introduction to art and design, principles of commerce, French, Persian, Arabic, among others.
