During a press conference in Beijing, Wang Yi urged for peace talks to end the two-year-old conflict in Ukraine. China’s Foreign Minister emphasized that China is committed to being a force for peace, stability, and progress in the world, despite strengthening ties with Russia amid the invasion of Ukraine.

Wang highlighted the importance of the strategic partnership between China and Russia, citing record-breaking trade figures and labeling their relationship as a “new paradigm” in big power dynamics. He stressed that major countries should avoid conflict and prevent a return to the Cold War era.

China has maintained a neutral stance in the Ukraine conflict, advocating for a ceasefire and dialogue between the conflicting parties through a 12-point peace plan. Wang reiterated China’s objective and impartial position on the issue, emphasizing the urgency of peace talks to prevent further escalation of the crisis. Peace envoy Li Hui was mentioned as actively working in the region to facilitate dialogue and de-escalation efforts.
