Former captain of the Yemen team, Basma Ma’ruf, announces retirement

Former captain of the national women’s team, Bismah Maroof, has announced her retirement from cricket. Women cricketer Bismah Maroof says she has made the decision to retire from the game that she loves the most. This has been an incredible journey, filled with challenges, victories, and unforgettable memories.

She said she wants to thank her family, who has been with her throughout her entire cricket journey, and also wants to thank the Pakistan Cricket Board for trusting her and providing a platform to showcase her skills. The collaboration with PCB has been invaluable, especially in implementing the first-ever parental policy, which has enabled her to represent her country at the highest level while being a mother.

She expressed her gratitude to the fans who have supported her unwaveringly throughout her entire career. Wherever and whenever she represented her country, they supported her. Lastly, she wants to thank her fellow players who have become like family to her, the camaraderie displayed on and off the field is something she will always cherish.

Left-handed batter Bismah Maroof made her ODI debut in 2006 against India and her T20 debut in 2009 against Ireland. She has represented Pakistan in 276 international matches, the most by any Pakistani female cricketer.

During her illustrious career, Bismah was part of the team that won gold medals at the Asian Games in 2010 and 2014.

Bismah Maroof has also captained the team in 96 international matches, representing Pakistan in four editions of the ICC Women’s World Cup (2009, 2013, 2017, and 2022) and leading the team in the 2022 World Cup in New Zealand.

In T20 internationals, Bismah Maroof represented Pakistan in eight editions of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup (2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2023) and captained the team in the global competitions in Australia and South Africa in 2020 and 2023.
