Sadiq Khan, of Pakistani descent, reelected as Mayor of London for the third time

London: British-Pakistani citizen Sadiq Khan has secured victory in the London mayoral election for the third time, defeating Conservative Party candidate Shaun Bailey by a clear margin.
According to a report by the British media outlet BBC, Sadiq Khan achieved success in all 14 constituencies in London during the municipal elections, including two Tory-held constituencies.
Labour Party candidate Sadiq Khan received 43% of the vote, while his opponent Shaun Bailey of the Tory party received 33% of the vote. According to voting patterns, the Labour Party also gained 2.5% of the vote from the Conservative Party.
The voter turnout for the London mayoral election was 40.5%, which is 1.5% lower than in 2021. Sadiq Khan easily secured victory in Lambeth and Southwark, Brent and Camden, City of London and East, Merton and Wandsworth, Greenwich and Lewisham, Enfield and Haringey, and North East, where he also won in 2021.
It should be noted that the process of counting votes began at 9 am on Sunday and the official results will be announced in the evening. Sadiq Khan was previously elected Mayor of London in 2021 and 2016.
The ongoing municipal elections in the UK have resulted in the Conservative Party, led by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, facing its worst defeat, with the opposition Labour Party achieving clear victories in several constituencies.
According to BBC, so far the Labour Party has won 1,132 seats, Liberal Democrats 520, and the ruling Conservative Party 509 seats, placing them third. 228 independent candidates have also been successful, the Green Party has won 179 seats, and 48 seats have gone to the SNP.
