The acceptance of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s nomination papers for Lahore’s constituency NA-130 for the upcoming Feb 8 general elections was challenged on Monday. Advocate Ishtiaq Ahmed Samsialvi, also known as Ishtiaq Chaudhry, filed an appeal before the Lahore High Court’s appellate tribunal, challenging the acceptance of Nawaz’s papers. He also challenged the rejection of his own nomination papers for NA-130 in the same appeal. Chaudhry argued that Nawaz’s disqualification in the Panama Papers case should still hold, and questioned the legality of the Election Commission of Pakistan’s acceptance of his papers. The appeal is set to be heard tomorrow and appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be submitted by Jan 3. The elections are scheduled for Feb 8.
