Caretaker Sindh CM Justice Retd Maqbool Baqar Sworn In

Today, the oath-taking ceremony for the caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh was held at the Governor’s House. The outgoing Chief Minister, Murad Ali Shah, was also in attendance.

Justice Retd Maqbool Baqar was administered the oath by Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori.

Prior to the ceremony, a consensus was reached between Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah and Opposition Leader Ansar Rana on the appointment of Maqbool Baqar as the caretaker CM.

After receiving the advice of CM Murad, Governor Kamran Tessori approved the appointment of Justice Retd Maqbool Baqar as the caretaker Chief Minister under Article 224 (1A) of the Constitution.

Notably, Governor Kamran Tessori had dissolved the Sindh Assembly on August 11, following CM Syed Murad Ali Shah’s advice.

About Justice Retd Maqbool Baqar

Justice Maqbool Baqar is a retired judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He was born on April 5, 1957, in Karachi. He obtained his LLB degree from the University of Karachi in 1979.

Justice Baqar began his legal career as an advocate in the Sindh High Court in 1981. He served as a judge of the Sindh High Court from 2002 to 2015.

In 2015, he was elevated to the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Throughout his career, Justice Baqar has delivered several significant judgments, including the case of Asif Zardari vs National Accountability Bureau, where he ruled that the NAB had exceeded its powers in investigating former President Asif Zardari.

He also wrote a dissenting note in the case of Justice Qazi Faez Isa vs Federation of Pakistan, stating that the presidential reference against Justice Isa was politically motivated.
