Biden separately spoke with both leaders on Sunday and discussed various aspects of the conflict in Palestine. While acknowledging Israel’s right to defend its citizens from terrorism, Biden stressed the importance of doing so in compliance with international humanitarian law to protect civilians. Additionally, Biden emphasized the immediate need for a significant increase in humanitarian assistance to meet the needs of people in Gaza. The White House also mentioned the ongoing ground operations and fighting between Israel and Palestinian armed groups. The call with el-Sisi involved a commitment from both leaders to accelerate and increase assistance to Gaza, starting immediately and continuing in the future.
