Plaintiffs in a civil case are urging the federal court to use its influence to get the US to urge Israel to end its hostilities in Gaza. The lawsuit accuses President Joe Biden and other senior US officials of being complicit in Israel’s “genocide” in Gaza. The Center for Constitutional Rights filed the lawsuit on behalf of human rights organizations and individuals affected by the conflict. The Biden administration’s lawyers are arguing that the court does not have authority to rule on the case, citing the political doctrine of separation of powers. The judge also questioned his authority in the case, but began the proceedings by describing the plight of Palestinians in Gaza. Earlier on Friday, the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to prevent acts of genocide against Gaza.
