Jannik Sinner caused a major upset by defeating defending champion Novak Djokovic 6-1 6-2 6-7(6) 6-3 at the Australian Open 2024 on Friday, marking Djokovic’s first defeat at Melbourne Park in six years and propelling Sinner into his first Grand Slam final. It was also noted that Sinner is the only Italian player to reach an Australian Open singles final.

The victory not only represented the rise of a new generation of tennis stars but also signaled the absence of Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafa Nadal in the Melbourne title clash for the first time since 2005. Sinner provided insight into his strategy, citing his return game and aiming to move Djokovic around the court. He is now preparing to face either Daniil Medvedev or Alexander Zverev in the final.
